I am having some issues with the smokers downstairs. When I first moved in, I was under the impression that the people that lived in my duplex smoked, but they smoked outside. If I knew they smoked in the house,I would not have moved in here due to my allergy to cigarette smoke.

For days my eyes had been stinging and I could smell smoke, but I thought it was because I had the windows open and my neighbour next door likes to sit out on his porch all day smoking, so I closed all the windows. I woke up one morning and I could smell the smoke even more. It was in my hair, it was on my clothes, on my skin. It had permeated my entire apartment. The kicker was all my brand new baby clothes now stink, and I mean stink of cigarette smoke.

My neighbours were never home so I tried to do little remedies to cope with it. I put out a little bowl of vinegar beside my main vent to see if it really was smoke, or my imagination. In about 2 hours the vinegar in the bowl had turned yellow. I used all these sprays, everything, but it wasn't going anywhere. I was getting bad headaches and waking up with my nose bleeding or having lots of dried blood in there. Finally they answered their door and they were very rude to Jay.

I was trying to be very diplomatic and nice, but honestly, why do I have to expense myself or go through so much trouble just to breathe ?? My options are either, I move, I buy an air purifier (that is hundreds of dollars), I block off all of my vents and buy little heaters (which will run up my hydro bill) or I just sit and suffer. Where is a shotgun, when you need one ??

I'm going to find out what my rights are, and if my landlord does nothing about it, I am moving. I am so very annoyed. Why do some people live like this ? Do they like living in a home that reaks like a saloon from the wild west ? No wonder they keep having so many problems making babies. I feel so bad for all their pets.

There is no way I will stay if nothing gets done about this, especially since I will have an infant in like 9 weeks time that will be even more sensitive to it than I am. Plus, I can't open my windows up in the wintertime. Especially the ones in the back that let in all that "eau de poops" smell, cause they aren't so diligent about cleaning their dog poops.Gross.
